My car seems to be making a clunking noise when I am turning the wheel at slow speeds, e.g. reversing out of parking spaces or turns in the road.

What could be making this noise? I'm going to take it to a garage to have a look but I wanted a general idea of what the problem could be.

CV joint is the joint on the end of the drive shaft - this joint allows the wheel to go up and down over bumps as well as be steered left and right whilst the drive shaft is rotating.

If the joint is worn out it will clunk as it turns, if you have the steering wheel turned almost all the way.

To rule out the CV joint, turn the steering wheel to full lock and drive slowly forwards and then backwards (doing semi/full circles).

If you hear a constant clicking, it's the CV joint.
