Hey all, thought I'd post this here as well as a dedicated ZX9 forum. I've recently replaced the friction plates in the above. All buttoned back up, clutch working fine. I set the freeplay to 2-3mm as per the handbook and the net and for road riding, this is fine. No clutch slip, smooth slick gear changes, into neutral no issues.

I am finding though, when the bike gets hot, say city riding (+95°c - fan on, but not mentally hot, the overheat point is 114°c iirc), the clutch release point gets closer and closer to the handlebar, to the point where I can no longer get neutral and the clutch is dragging like crazy, not fully releasing. If I wind the adjuster out say 10mm and the lever end, this moves the release point back away from the handlebar, allowing me to then get neutral and stopping the clutch dragging, but this entirely removes all the freeplay from the lever end. Once back out on the open road and to cruising temp (~80°c), I can then wind the adjuster back in to get my 2-3mm of freeplay back and she'll go into neutral etc just fine once she's cooled back down.

The cable was replaced with an AS3 one less than 10k ago, no fraying that I can see, although part of the plastic sheath has come adrift at some point. Cable regularly lubed and moves smoothly. Any ideas?

Re fit the friction plates you have something a miss.

Not sure how the friction plates could be wrongly fitted, but not sure what else it could be. Might try replacing the clutch cable, guess that *could* be stretching as it gets warm. If not, plastics off, clutch cover off and see what's what. Might have to wait until the weather changes and the other bike comes out of hibernation though
