Clutch damage?

Did a stupid thing today when i left home. Half asleep i shifted from first to second but lifted the clutch before the gear was engaged and it popped back into neutral after making a rather horrible grindy sound. Everything seems fine but can this do permanent damage to anything? or have i gotten off with just being a numpty?

Nope... that's what happens when you miss a gear, the gearbox makes a sound like it wants to kill you, then goes back to normal.

Oh, and it's the gearbox making the noise, not the clutch. It's like trying to put it into reverse while you're still going forward. Not nice.

Probably like once or twice a year i guess, should be fine then
