Clutch leaking

ok i have a 2002 Ford focus which is starting to cost me money every couple of month, booked my car in to garage yesterday as i was told by them that the master cylinder on the breaks was leaking ( fluid on the driver mat)

so they had my car for the whole day changing it and bleeding the system readjusting the breaks and so on only to tell me when i picked it up that it wasn't the cylinder that they replaced but the one on the clutch pedal thankfully the garage didnt charge me for the work, but they cant do anything with the clutch how much is something like this going to cost

Changing a clutch master cylinder is arguably easier than changing the brake. What is their reason for not replacing it?

they didnt say and at the time i was to ticked of to ask why trying another garage on monday but am not sure what kind of price this is going to be as i dont want to get shafted

I don't know what access is like in the focus, but I would guess at 2hrs labour max, including bleeding.

Master cylinder will cost maybe £40, fluid £5, so Budget ~£125 to do the job.

clutch master cylinder CAN be a gearbox off job on some cars, you can nearly triple that quote if that is the case.

Had the slave cylinder in our Laguna II changed, it was located inside the bell housing of the gearbox so was a gearbox out job. Dual mass flywheel and clutch were knackered, total cost £900.

I think you might be confusing the master and slave cylinders. Concentric slave cylinders are fitted within the bellhousing and require the gearbox to be removed to gain access. Master cylinders are mechanically linked to the clutch pedal, so almost always mounted on the bulkhead.
