Good evening OcUK,

Looking at new clutches for the Ti, and turns out I can spend as little as £60 for a generic one off the bay, or get a Unipart one for around £105 from my local Partco.

Any thoughts or experience with cheaper clutches? Cheers!

:)

They're fine, in my experience.

I honestly don't think I've ever fitted a premium clutch, except for the one in my 205 which I've not driven yet :D

I'd get a decent one personally, not the cheapest of the cheap but you don't have to spend silly money

Get an LUK one IMO. Best OEM replacement unit, ebay is a minefield of cheap nasty **** that will go bang in a couple of months.

Just in the process of getting the gearbox off the 602ti, so will be doing it myself.

Are Unipart bits okay? LUK clutches on the T series engines are known to be problematic.

mk3 golf gtis left the factory with sachs or LUK clutches. they typically last until about 150k, i stuck with one of those when i put mine in at 154k, after 50k hard miles later, its tip top

Clutches can be a total ****ing ripoff at times.

Clutch for my 406 (needed badly, can't rev the engine going uphill!) is around £60.
Clutch for my SJ419 (SAME engine, slightly lower tune) was over £100!

Looking around for a Valeo unit for mine though.

When I drop a gearbox/spilt an engine to replace the clutch/thrust bearing I Always go with the Best clutch plate/kit money can buy, Anybody that skimps is a Fool.
Why bother splitting your engine with all the work that entails if you're not going to do it properly. Chances are if you are keeping the car & drive hard you'll blow it apart in months rather than years.
I would never skimp to save a measly forty quid in that situation.

I'm not going to be there unfortunately, car is knacked and work want me in :( very short staffed.

Needs new brakes, also going to do the CV gaiters and de-rust and repaint all the driveshafts and coolant pipes. :)

I've just fitted a performance clutch to a mates car (nissan sunny), if you tend to abuse your clutch it's worth getting a performance one. Over standard it feels a little heavier.
Pain in the arse to fit a clutch though, his dad told us the way but we had to drop out the gearbox and engine to fit it. Which was a bitch seeing as we didn't have the proper tools to do it, i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Took us ages.

I dissagree. Ive had 2 boxes out of lupos. Had to just drop off engine. Had no proper tools but did fine on my drive at a weekend. 4x2 ove bonnet to surport engine while u realse 1 side engine mounts and jacks underneath. It depends how much £200 is worth to you and how confident you are tho
