So ive decided to switch back to my 690 to help save some space.
I will also be switching to a i7 and ASUS P6T SE board.

I have made some modifications to the 690 and am wondering about the ideal fan setup.

The i7 will be under my Megahalems, but as it is an i7 the die is actually rectangular right ? which makes me wonder if the Megahalems would be more effective oriented differently. This is how I currently have it :

That case is kinda unconventional so ive rotated it to be comparable with a normal one.

In the 690 -
The PSU sucks in from outside the case and blows outside the case.
There are spaces for fans-
2x120mm on front
1x120mm on bottom
1x120mm on back
2x140mm on top
2x140mm on side
1x80mm on mobo back side.

I have 4x120mm 1900rpm's, 2x140mm 1900rpm's and a Zalman fan controller.

Im currently thinking:
1 140mm sucking air in on the top just infront of the Megahalems which has 2x120mm sucking through and out the back. 2x120mm sucking in through the front (one to GPU and one via HDDs to CPU). And the other 140mm on the side sucking air onto the GPU.
OR
2x120mm on front sucking air in (one to GPU and one via HDDs to CPU). 1x140mm on side to GPU. 2x120mm on Megahelems sucking air from GPUs direction up to a 140mm sucking air out through the top.

Would covering up the unused fan holes make any difference ?

Please dont start moaning about the noise these 1900rpms will make. I bought them so i obviously dont think theyre that loud.
And i have a fan controller anyway.

Im likely to just test out multiple different configs anyway but thought it was worth talking it through.

Cheers

My 690 only has 1 120mm on the front...

Best bet is intake front/bottom and side panel, exhaust top and back...

Keep airflow simple otherwise you'll end up with standing air or confusion that will increase temps much more than just having poor flow.
