the last week i have found my clock to be losing time and then booting today i had a dos error saying the cmos has lost settings and now in safe mode. the shuttle is only 9 months old.... is this normal for the battery to last this short time? my previous shuttle lasted 3 years then i had to replace it pretty much every 90 days for some reason. Should i be turning it off at the wall when i have shut down? am i doing something that could kill them? or was the last shuttle faulty and this is just bad pot luck and when i replace it all will be well!

anyone else had this issue?

Still on my standard battery after 2 and a bit years and never switch it off at the mains.

Maybe it's a dodgy battery.

Try and source a good battery from somewhere, my experience with alarm clocks () tells me cheap batteries are rubbish.

Don't forget to unplug the machine when you change batteries, I zapped the network chip ages ago trying to pull one out without completely dismantling the machine, and dropped it on the m/b. (I was trying to reset the Cmos after a particularly large overclock went awry) Luckily it was replaced under warranty.:o

unplugging it from the wall shouldnt cause the battery to die after 9 months.

keeping it plugged in gives a constant supply of voltage/current to the mobo (pretty much like stand by) so the bios wont ever need to use the battery, but if you did this there is no way to tell if you have a dodgy battery.

if i were you i'd go and buy a new decent battery (duracel or energizer or somethin) and see how long that lasts

ok cheers for the info. the only reason i worry is due to having this issue before with my last shuttle. swapped the battery over and all is working so far
