Cmos battery dead - new build in Nov

I think my battery has died, if I turn the power off at the wall or unplug the power cable, the Cmos resets itself. I lost my overclock so it was a bit annoying, running on the OC click bios Genie now till I get time to start testing again.

Components:
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
MSI Z68A-GD55-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

You reckon my battery could be dead already? I bought it all in November from Overclockers.co.uk

They are usually good for several years so it's unlikely. You never know though it could just be a bad battery or is not making a proper connection.

They are cheap enough to replace.

Best way to find out would be to just try a new one. You can pick them up for under £10.

You can, but they shouldn't cost more than a pound or two even if you go to a real shop.

I have mobo's that are over 8 years old with the original battery still working fine. It shouldn't die that quick. Try taking it out and putting it back in to make sure it's mking good contact, and if you have a multimeter measure the voltage.

I've only ever needed to replace one and that was on a 6 year old machine that was switched off at the mains every single night.

I got 24 panasonic CR2032 batts delivered for £6 from one of the online battery dealers.

Fit car keys, chest pulse straps, watches, some remote controls, alarm sensors etc etc as well as PC's. Always worth having some in the draw.

sounds like there may be a short in the case tbh. if the mobo has a clr cmos button make sure that isnt depressed/faulty as well.

It only happens when I turn off the PC at the wall though...never occurs if I just shut it down through windows.

I'll check the clr cmos button.

are you're time/date settings resetting back or are they staying uptodate? if they are resetting themselves too then almost definitely the cmos battery. as others have stated they nomally last years, but i have known a couple to die after about 6months, though they were both cruddy off the shelf office pc's
