CMOS Battery Playing up

My Antec build has been running perfectly for a month, all hardware is perfect and cooling is great etc.

Recently whenever I switch off the PC and then switch off the mains all my settings reset - Date, Time, BIOS Settings (everything to do with what the CMOS Battery helps with).

It only happens when Mains power is stopped, so If I do an average shut down it is fine.

I have tried this:
-Replace CMOS Battery(About 6 times)
-Pull CMOS Battery holder's little metal contact higher so that it is definately in contact with Battery
-Pull 12-pin and 4-pin connectors out and replace batter
-Remove batter for 20 Minutes and replace
-BIOS Update
-Different Power Supply

I know it's probably the motherboard being a pain, but everything else about the motherboard is spot on.

This isn't an urgent thing, it's just a minor annoyance. I would prefer to have the freedom to switch off the mains without having to reset EVERY setting.

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem with my Abit IP35 PRO.
Can you try reloading the BIOS or check for a update just in case this has become corrupted.

Well it happened before I updated BIOS and it continued after updating it.

I don't particularly want to change BIOS again as last motherboard became unuseable after a failed BIOS update. Costly mistake.

I wonder if it's worth testing the board external to the case, just in case a short is coursing your problems, even though the boards runs ok.
Failing that send a email to the manufacturer see if they have any options for you to test.

Already did that before I put it in the Antec 300 case, sorry I wasn't clear about that before.

I put in every brass stand-off I could because my last case shorted out the motherboard.

Hmm, I would suggest emailing support either to the retail outlet or direct to the manufacturer, there is definitely something not quite right.

When you say "replace", do you mean with a new one?

If not, I am pretty sure the CMOS batteries are rechargable. Take it out, put it in the mobo the opposite way around. Turn on computer, wait for 15 seconds. Turn off computer, put the battery back in the normal way and then boot the computer.

I had to do the above for my CMOS battery, was on the ASUS wesbite somewhere :).

I meant completely replacing it with another battery. Used up like 6 of them.

I do agree that you can get rechargeable batteries on MB's - I also stand by my statement that most newish motherboards use Lithium CR2032 batteries which aren't rechargeable. The batteries will need to be replaced, depending on how long and often you disconnect your PC from the wall, every3 to 5 years.. These batteries only provide power to the the bios to maintain settings - less power than is required to operate a watch which either has a digital display or hands to move....

Hi guys,

As the title says really. When I first bought the motherboard it arrived with a dead CMOS battery so I changed it but it keeps draining the batteries after a few months. Its a spare system and so isnt used but remains plugged into the socket. Ive checked the voltage of the current battery and its down to 2v. I plan to sell this computer now but really need to sort the issue out if I can.

Any ideas why the batteries keep draining?

Cheers

Thanks for using my thread :D

I suppose if you revive my thread someone might answer the original question.

Anyone know an answer to either question?
