I need to replace the CMOS battery on my old rock clevo m57u laptop, but the battery itself is inside a plastic cover, with two wires coming out of it. can i just cut open the casing, replace the battery and seal the casing back up, or do i need to buy a new battery in its casing?

The wires will be soldered or spot welded to the battery, so can be tricky, its easier to swap the whole battery cable included as it just plugs into the motherboard

okay. any idea where i can get a replacement, as i don't think there are any labels on the battery itself.

There will be a number under the plastic if you want to go battery itself method, or search on auction site for either 2 pin or 3 pin cmos depending on what yours is, if you cant see the connector from the panel you might need to fully strip it, in which case the battery only method might be easier.

Right, it's a CR2032, but it has a two pin connector attaching it, so i need to get a new one. Does it matter what laptop it's for, as many of the batteries say "for compaq X" or "for Dell Inspiron X".

I would not like to say personally! Ask for a pic, if it looks the same, it probably is. You know its a CR2032, so it is 3.0V

oh okay. Thanks. There are some small pictures on the site. i'll take a look and see if i can find a similar one, but it'll be difficult, as i am using the laptop right now!
