When i booted up my PC this morning i got the above message and had to press F1 to continue. Is this the first sign of the CMOS battery failing or is it a sign of something a bit more serious ? I did some googling and found it could be a few things causing this message i.e Problems with my motherboard, memory, hdd, Psu - in fact just about everything inside my case could be at fault

Could be a one off or more likely the battery.

Setup the bios again and use the PC. Turn it off tonight and see what happens in the morning. If if happens again tomorrow, replace the battery. While Google is helpful, it can sure make a user paranoid. ;)

Asus boards all do this if you switch it off while booting. They call it cpu parameter recall, its to stop you having to reset the cmos when overclocking fails. I bet thats what it is.

It can also be manual timings and voltages being needed, EVEN at stock speeds, with certain "blends of components"...... and I have the answer if this is the case. ;)

my mobo is a Abit VA-20 / ECS KM400-M Deluxe / KM400-M2 / V7-2. Ive had it fitted for around 12mths (pehaps a bit longer) This is the first problem so im guessing its the battery
