I have a really weird problem with my MoBo and changing the CPU settings although I think there maybe something dying or about to die in the rig.

Before I start here is full specs

2500K
MSI P67A GD65
4gb OCZ plat Ram
Corsair 40gb SSD
1TB F3 spinpoint
Corsair H50 cooler
LG DVD RW
XFX 750W PSU

the problem started yesterday and it manifested itself by the system just powering itself down and then booting up. Each time this happened it had no issues posting.

So I went into trouble shooting mode and thought OK, maybe the CPU needs more vcore ?? Now the issue here is that this rig has been running a 4.2 since the day I built it in March 2011 and never had any problems. So before going into chnage the vcore I thought lets run prime for a few hours and intel burn test to check if the CPU is stable.

I ran Intel burn test for 50 cycles = no problem
I ran prime for 4 hours = rock solid so fails

So I think hmmm vcore not the issue here, maybe there is a short somewhere. So i take the covers off recheck all the cabling, tidy a few bits up, check the mounting screws on the H50, and then check the CPU temps. All of this checks out, no issues.

So I think ok lets go into the bios and change some settings and crank the juice down a bit. SO I went into the bios and change the multiplier down to x38 left vcore alone thinking if it is remotely a vcore issue then with a lower multiplier this will certainly remove that factor.

now this is where I see the problem, when I made the changes I saved them in the bios and rebooted. System posts 1st time no issues and boots as fast as normal into win7. I fire up CPUID and low and behold it still shows the cpu at x42. I think maybe I didn't save the chnages ??? so I reboot, go into bios change and save and reboot, this time i go back to bios to check the settings and once again the settings are not changed........

Anyone seen this before and if so how do I go about fixing it so the bios starts taking the changes ? I was thinking maybe clear cmos using jbat1 jumper, but here is my next problem I can;t find the damn jumper anywhere. I read the mannual and that says reset cmos using JBAT1 and then doesn't actually show on any of the schematics where the hell it is !!!!!!!!

New battery (CR2032) would be first on my list to replace.

The jumper (JBAT 1) lives right next to the battery.

Use manual at above link 'Mainboard Layout' image clearly shows JBAT 1.

Thanks. Turn out the reason i couldn't locate it is because it was playing peek-a-boo under the GFX card :)

I ordered a new battery tonight so I will try it out when it arrives, (won;t be for another week though as I am out of the country). I'll reort back when this is done to see if the problem is sorted.

Deep down part of me wants it to fail so I have an excuse to order a basket full of Ivy Bridge goodness from OCUK :)

The only thing I don't understand is why the system rebooted itself ? I checked all the motherboard connections and everything is ok. Could it be a symptom of the board possibly slowing dying ?
