CMOS Settings Wrong

Everythings been running fine for ages then suddenly over the last two days I get the following message on boot up:

CMOS settings wrong
CMOS Date/Time not set
Press F1 to run set up
Press F2 to load default values and continue

When I go into my BIOS I find it has forgotton the time and my boot order. Any ideas what is causing this?? PC is as per sig.

I'm about to back up all my photos/documents and run my AVG antivirus programme just in case!
 
My first guess would be that the CMOS battery is on the way out which is a bit odd for the age of your PC but it can happen.

I take it the PC is fine once you do the necessary in the BIOS?
 
Ok I'll try a new CMOS battery. I've read my ASUS Mobo manual and there is no information on replacing the battery! Is it a straightforward job? Will I lose all my BIOS settings? The battery is a lithium CR2032 3V. Can I get these from a camera shop or do I need to go to a PC store?
 
Dead easy to fit usually, just a wee sprung holder thingy. The first time you boot after the battery change you'll get the same messages as your getitng now becuase the CMOS will have reset when you change the battery. After you set it up though it'll keep the settings.

A CR2032 in a watch? How big are your watches? Or are they "time pieces"? :p
