Hey guys still contemplating building my own case.
and was wondering what you thought and if it is possible.
Also wondering if any one has used any companies to cut perspex. Or if some kind fella could sketch it up in google sketch or similar to size..

This is what I was thinking.
front and back panel would just be flat, i would then screw them on to the struts.
One strut at the front and the back. One in line with the right hand side of the mobo screw holes and one in line with the back of the front5.25" bay racks.

grill, obviously with the panels recessed so these are flush with the edge of the edge of the panel

and the dodge logo etched onto the inside of the panels. Possibly filled with uv water and a light(led) some where. Just with a backing panel screwed on and sealed with silicone so it doesn't leak. So it would glow the design. Would that even work? Or is there a simpler way. I don't want it bright I just want a gentle red glow.
One on either side and one at the bottom of the front panel.
Thinking of a dark smoked perspex or maybe just black. If it was etched almost all the way through I think I could still get a glow from the logo somehow. .

So you think something like this is possible. I would just cannibalise other pc cases for the bays, feet and other parts.

Was thinking 10mm perspex with a 4x4mm grove for the side panels..

I could certainly drill al the holes and tap them. But I'm pretty sure I couldn't do the groves and notches to line up properly. And certainly not the logo etch. Unless I got a router, can you get perspex heads for them. It Would take some time to build guides for the router.

Edit on 2nd thoughts, better go with a 6x 5.25 bay for the 4x harddrives + 2x xspc res/pump. And would need 3 inches in front of the hard drive bays, so the sata cables don't break and also for the pipes. Would 3 inches be enough?.

Any help, opinions or experience would be gratefully received.

well it looks like one hell of a task, but should look pretty dam sweet if you do go ahead with it.

i cant really give any advice on how to go about building it as i have little experience doing that sort of thing, but goodluck

^^^
Which ones that?

Do any high street stores sell perspex? As Looking at someone elses project I think smoked will be far to transparent and solid colour far to opaque. So i think the first thing is to get a few small pieces and see how it look and see if I can get a red glow from it..

Never knew that was an official logo. So that's what the chrome things are behind the side windows. All though they have something in the middle..
Those do look good, but I really like the look of the ram.

Does anyone know if you can get perspex router bits for a normal drill? or for a router?

Anyone know if extremely dark tint exists? Something you can only just see through. Because the dark tint on websites, isn't dark at all.

To which pieces do you refer when you say struts?

I could throw this together in SolidWorks if you gave me sufficient dimensions. Post here or email me if you like.

Google, generally. I looked up a lot of specs when I designed an mATX case about a year ago for a Myth box project. What parts need dimensions?

Generally speaking, what parts will you use? The motherboard spec is the biggest concern. Will you be using an ATX board?

Space things out so unfamiliar dimensions, such as the length of an optical drive, don't matter. Same goes for the graphics card. Give it enough space for length that it doesn't matter.

If this is to confusing is there a better 2d program I can use with measurements in it..

Based on 6mm perspex.
with grove and notch both 3mm.

Only trouble is I can't work out where all the fan holes, IO holes, pci slots etc. need to go measurement wise.

I'll get to work on this tomorrow. (It's 3 AM here) When there isn't sufficient info for something I'll make a number up and record it, then report back.

After a very cursory glance:
How thick is the plexiglass? Do the 5.25" bays on the side need openings in the side of the case? What model rads? Can you point me to drawings or detailed descriptions of those so I can dimension them with appropriate screw holes?

I'm getting to work on this now. Quick questions:
To what do the 5.25" disks attach? Is there to be a separate piece of perspex that forms a tower for those?

Do the motherboard standoffs screw directly into the side panel of the case?

How do you access the guts? Can one panel slide off?

The "struts" are simple rectangles, right? They are held in place with screws from the outside?

EDIT: How are the front and rear held in place? The front seems to fit over the sides, but the back fits inside them. Is that right?

EDIT2: How thick are the "struts"? I've made them 24mm thick for lack of a better idea. I can easily change it when I find out. :)

EDIT3: Strut height changed to 513 mm to eliminate interference.

a bit of perspex that fit's on top of the struts at the bottom, sorry missed that bit of. Basically along rectangle, that the psu and 5.25" bay cage will sit on and screw to. The cage will be cannibalised from an old case and simply screw to that rectangle and to one of the struts. That cage size should be teh right size for teh full cage with drives fitted, but haven't taken into account cable and pipe excess.

The mother board would be fixed to a piece of perspex motherboard size and screwed to the back two struts, sorry missed that bit of as well. gets more complicated the more you think of these things.

Yes the front panel covers all over panels and will be screwed from the inside to the front strut.

The back panels fit's inside the two side panels, but over and flush with the bottom and top panel. held on wit thumb screws to the back strut.

I was initially thinking 6mm, but on 2nd thoughts I will probably glue a few together. It would be good it the back strut would be wide enough to cover the screw holes on the edge of the motherboard and fit flush with the back panel.
It would also be good if the back middle strut was similar sized to line up with motherboard holes on that side.

Yep the strut is a hollow rectangle. 6mm width on bottom and sides, 26mm on top so the fans can fit flush with the top panel and struts. The rad can tehn be mounted to both struts and top panels. Again everything bar back panel screwed from teh inside.

Why not make the front and back panels identical in how they attach, i.e. both fit over the side and top panels of the rig?

Any answers to the other questions. :)
