I finally decided to OC my 965, got it to 3.8 stable with fine load temps. problem is that it will no longer activate cnq and drop down to 800mhz :| it is definitely enabled in bios. anyano got any ideas?

Are you using Windows 7? I had this problem earlier with my 945 it turns out that because i changed the power settings onto "high performance" it disabled the cool and quiet feature (even though it was enabled in bios)

I think I read somewhere that it self disables above 3.6ghz. Could be complete nonsense though :D
I really don't understand how my multiplier OC should affect cnq which reduces the multiplier.... I know I can get a 3.8 oc using software and still have cnq work, but software is horrible :)

I had a problem like this when messing around a few weeks ago on my Gigabyte board. CnQ wouldn't work if you changed the CPU multipler but would if you started increasing the FSB but left the CPU multiplier untouched. There was a thread a while back asking about this and there were a few people with different board brands (Asus, MSI) that had cool 'n' quiet working but none had gone over 3.6ghz according to their sigs.

Wasn't really trying to overclock more just messing about so wasn't too bothered. Gigabyte indicated that this was the way it worked on their boards.

I'll check a few things, then update the bios (probably needs doing anyway) and see if that helps. wouldn't mind being able to have 3.8 & it slowing properly, it actually gave me a noticeable improvement on my min fps in games (avg didn't really increase)

I think it disables if you overclock
But go and download 'Phenom MSR Tweaker'
Lets you customise C&Q from windows, with a host of settings makin git way better than the BIOS C&Q.
My 965 is at 3.8 stable vith 1.38 volt
throttles back to 800mz with 0.77 volt
idles at 24C, nice
