Hi All,
I have just moved house and I am planning to run cat 6 ethernet around the house to multiple rooms.
We are going to be having some work down downstairs (which also involves building a space for my network rack to go). Until this work starts, I cant start the runs for the ethernet and this leaves me in a bit of a pickle for the next 6 to 8 months as my office upstairs doesn't get any wifi signal!
However one thing that is available in every room in this house is a coax cable or port . I assume the previous owner had virgin tv boxes in every room throughout the house.
I was planning to try powerline adapters (absolutely hate them) and randomly came across these MOCA Adapters which seems to be an American thing but they seem to be using these cables and turning them into ethernet jacket at either ends.
I have searched this forum but most of the responses to this topic seem to be its best to wire cat 6. As I am planning to do that anyway at some point, would getting one of these adapters just for my office of the short term allow me to have ethernet speeds or are these a crap solution and should I not bother with this? Anyone with any experience using them?
Is it as simple as router > Moca adapter > Coax cable downstairs > Coax cable in room > Moca adapter > Ethernet ??
