I think it was the SAC in the last war who said that the most important supplies for the troops were tobacco and coca cola.

I thought it was common knowledge, i've even seen some old advertising campain that refer to it's "properties"

It also used to be green. We also get the "Modern image" of Father Christmas from their old adverts. Diet Coke contains Aspartame as do many Diet drinks and foods.

Which is worse for you
.back in the 19th and early 20th century there was lots of drugs going about as a miracle cure for illness - you could buy cocaine, heroin (a BASF trademark), amphetamines, opium etc - everybody thought they were good for you and not addictive.
