Not a question but a solution.

I was changing my settings in the options menu in COD 2, putting resolution up etc and when I hit apply COD 2 crashes and it displays an error message box saying that DirectX unrecoverable error.

Re-installed the latest DX9 etc and tested some other stuff. But then I exited Xfire, and it works. Keep in mind this is only when logged into Xfire and changing settings in COD 2 thats only when it happens. So I exit xfire and I can change settings no problem. No crashes.

Do Activision know about this?

I was getting this problem, had no idea what was causing it. It's funny though, i've never had a problem with COD2 and Xfire before. Maybe it's a recent Xfire update that caused it.

I used to have the same problem with XFire and another game.... cant remember which one, might have been GTA3 or something. I used to get that error everytime i exited the game.

I have a problem with xfire and CoD2 aswell. Sometimes when xfire disconnects mid-game it causes CoD2 to crash, and restarts my PC. I thought it was because my old PC was flakey but I've recently bought, pretty much, a whole new system and I still have the same problem.

Why is it Activisions problem, when its xfire causing the problem?

What are you talking about?

Its to do with compatibility issues, companies that care such as activision would like to know if there is compatibility issues such as interfearing, to sort it for the benefit of their customers.

I already emailed them and told them about this problem. Just saying that they should look into it by adding it to their faq on this problem as it isn't there.

I was emailed back an hour or 2 later and was told thank you and they will look into this.

Well if I owned a games company I would like my customers to tell me if their is compatibility issues or programs interfearing etc, so it can be researched and fixed.

But activision never asked the makers of Xfire to support their games? No software companies did as far as i know. So its up to the makers of Xfire to fix the problem seeing its their software that causes it.

Would COD:2 get direct x errors if it wasnt for Xfire? No.
