Well I caved and bought this today and started playing through on Veteran. I was on the Russian radio wire mission and was nearing the end (I was on the next objective with the sticky bombs) and after spending about an hour and a half making it through the houses I decided to leave it there for now and take a break. Went to Save and Quit - was told all progress up to the last checkpoint would be lost, no problem I just got to a checkpoint. Hit Save and Quit, went back to the main menu. I thought I'd check it was there OK...

Went to Missions, clicked the mission in question and it went back to the start. Went to main menu and hit Resume Game - exactly the same thing!!

Presumably it Autosaved when I went to Missions and overwrote my original midway through checkpoint. WTF was wrong with letting you choose a save game name/location on the PC version?!?

So now I have to start this infurating mission, again, from the beginning!

I bought it to enjoy over the weekend but now feel driven round the bend!

Because that system sucks and ruins many games, turning them into "Save after this kill" sections. I personally thought the CoD2 save system was perfect, and mine did save to the latest checkpoint.

You misunderstood my original post. I have no problem with going back and replaying certain sections - quicksaving would make it too easy and repetitive, my problem is not being able to specify a name for my save game or a location - i.e. I might want to have more than one game going at once or more importantly, so it doesn't autosave over 2hrs of work!

It seems to be a system employed by almost all Xbox360 games, where 1 account is limited to 1 save. All my games apart from Kameo employ the same system.

In Madden you can save multiple franchises and get to name them to avoid any overwriting. I don't have a problem with it, but just as I say I wasn't given any prompt or warning and it was a loss of a fair bit of work.
