Just get a 4850 the 256mb of ram may well hold the sli gt's back. If cod 5 is anything like cod 4 then the 4850 will eat the game up no problem.

Why will fraps only ever show 90 odd fps in cod4 when im sure it should be a fair bit more?

you have the FPS locked at 90
open console and type
/com_maxfps 0

why have a limit 
I go well over 125 most of the time....especially in maps like broadcast. I think I got almost 200fps average once on that map with 8xAA and everything maxed out

limit to 101 fps is the best without the limit if fps jumps form 80~200 then back down it causes not so smooth game play

I suppose you have a point, but tbh I have never noticed any lack of smoothness jumping from 90ish to 150ish

It's to do with 'magic' framerates. It's an exploit from the quake days.

i jump from around 100 to towards 300 at times. if it never goes below 100 i cant see how it would lack in smoothness.
