Hi guys,

I just got COD 4 and it doesn't run that smoothly for me. It's the first time i've experience this (probably because it's the first new game i've bought in a while!). Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
ASUS A8N-SLI SE
NVIDIA Geforce 7800 GT
2GB RAM

What's holding me back the most here? I'm worried it's probably the processor, which would be a pretty big problem for me!

Its a game that is capable of using multiple CPU cores, so yes, your CPU is definately the biggest bottleneck there.

Correct. New GPU would still leave you pretty limited.

My mate runs with two P4 Xeon's, and SLI'd 7800GT, it runs COD4 "ok". CPU's are holding him back.

Just Drop the res & it will run fine on medium settings. High res really kicks this game to bits.

Go with you optimal monitor res, turn off all the eye candy and make sure you don't have too many apps running in the background.

Then go from there, but with your spec you should be able to play with acceptable fps

What sort of FPS are you getting bliss? Im on the same sort of computer really and getting appauling fps. I am mainly on medium at 1280 by 1024 and usually get 8 fps online :(.

Playing with the rig in sig and i get completely smooth FPS. Your CPU is better than mine too. :)

Hmm you've got a better GPU so maybe that's helping?

It doesn't run terribly, but it can get a bit choppy even on medium resolution, which is no good for online play.

I see drops in fps running medium to high settings at 1280*1024. Are the fps linked to quality of net connection?

I have a P4 @ 3.5ghz and 2gb RAM and ATI 1950Pro and I am running 1280x1024 all on Max settings and single player runs fine on my rig, not tried multiplayer though.

Played the whole game and not noticed any slowness or stuttering at all, all seems silky smooth.

His mobo is 939 pin, that CPU wont fit it.

I would suggest you look on eBay for a 165, 170, 175,180 Opteron.

Mine is a 165 (1.8Ghz runs at 2.5Ghz no problem). You can pick up the above really cheaply now. Opteron 185 is over £100, but the rest are much less.

If you can grab a 180, then do so.

I run CoD4 reasonably well at 12X10, mostly high textures but everything else turned off on a Pentium 4 3G, 1gb pc3200 and a 7900gs; average probably about 50/60 fps, however i get very annoying lag spikes.
