Why Have I suddenly got this error what does it mean?

I think if you run the PBUpdate.exe from the wrong location it causes this error (see link for solution)

I get that a lot recently, tried updating the Punkbuster client twice now, its only on some servers and reseting the game sometimes works.

delete your punkbuster folder, then download pbsetup.exe from evenbalance.

Also download the punkbuster service checker here http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

also make sure pba and pbb are allowed through your firewall.

After doing all 3 of the above. restart your computer and see if problem is gone

Is the punkbuster folder the PB folder in the cod directory?

Also where do you download the .exe from, I can only find the updates.

All you need to do is uninstall and reinstall (hopefully) punkbuster.

Download and run this

The top one is the install package for punkbuster, so simply run it, uninstall punkbuster then re-install it, and then run the second download to update PB to the latest version.

Caused by pb.dll stopping.

Might just reinstall, what happens to the player. as there isn't a password. So do you loss all the stats and unlocks?

Hi mate, to keep your stats you'll need to backup your players profile before uninstalling.

XP location:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call Of Duty 4\Players\Profile

Vista location:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\player
