Really annoying - i get it every second for about the 1st minute of the game then it sometimes settles down...really annoying...does anyone else get this, know of any cures???

Please help? I've googled it tonnes of times but none of the solutions seem to work for me!!

SP or MP mate?

Since ive installed windows 7, ive found while playing MP that i get very odd frame rate drops. Im putting it down to punkbuster.

do you enable v sync is so try it without and change fps to 125 (/com_maxfps 125 ) you need to open console in game.

if you have graphics fps set already is your cpu at stock ?

you really need at least 3.0 or you will get cpu bottlenecking

check your antivirus is allowing pb . could try turning off for a min then join a game then play if it doesnt do it then you know it that.

some might sound noobish but i cant see it being too complicated.;

I've not tried SP, since i re-installed the game on Win7/64

i really don't think it's bottlenecking - i5 turbos to over 3ghz on two cores (turbo is on)

vsync is on but that aint it. i used fraps and just by looking at the screen it's easily hitting the 60hz of my monitor, i recorded the frame times and min max average and i get a min of 2, with sometimes 0.7 seconds between frames...these are massive drops not just the odd dropped frame as if the cpu is struggling

I am on windows 7 yeah, tried it with and without avast running (or installed), tried the enable dual video cards option - still nothing, turning off vsync also makes no difference...done adaware sweeps (then turned it off)...

it's driving me up the wall, i bought this new rig to run cod6 (which i've not even bothered getting), but now it won't play cod as bad as my old x2 system!!!

It eats L4D2 alive (at that's cpu intensive)

Is it worth trying to manually update PB (but surely if that was a problem it would just boot me right??)

Argghhh!!

Its punkbuster - for the first few minutes when I connect my fps is dropping to 10-12fps every 10 seconds - from a solid 333 - very annoying - and thats on a v. fast quad core + dual video card setup.

Nothing will really fix it.

Also VSync + FPS games = bleh :P especially in COD4 you really don't want to be limiting to 60fps as everyone else will be running 125, 250 or 333 and getting slightly faster movement/jump height.

exactly fps over 125 for the win :D

thanks for all the replys fellas, i really appreciate it.

The stutters to seem to clear up after a while whenever i log on, so i think you must be right about punkbuster.

Is this just a windows 7 thing?

Also does it really make a difference fps over 60? Are you guys turning down settings to get super high fps?

I mean i do run about like a bit of headless chicken in COD4 - it's more fun than camping - but i do tend to get owned in 1 on 1 - well beaten quite a lot...i thought it was just me being an old man ;)

we could open the can of worms fps debate :D

but if your playing cod you should at least set it to 125

most competitive people who play will play at 125 , 250 so why not play at that all time.

a lot will say the capped at sixty eye malarky but even if the eye cant you can when playing ie smoothness more responsive.

OK so i'm ignoring the stuttering i get for the first minute and after that it goes away!!

Thanks for this, you've brought this game back from the dead for me.

I'm now playing an average 88 - mostly 91 according to fraps - is that capped?

Will the console command you're talking about raise that cap? Just read your earlier post again - yes...

Awesome will report back... I'm DukeRaoul in game, if you ever see me say hello, mention the OcUK forums eh?

I usually play on the TeM servers

I had this problem... Had an old hard drive in my system that for some reason span up when I started a game. No idea why... Anyway, unplugged it and the stuttering went. Have you got any drives spinning up?

yeah no the tem lot :D

also dont use fraps on cods cause you get kicked online by pb ;)

stupid for a games recording prog but it does do it.

just do /cg_drawfps 1 to put on fps meter

and /cg_drawfps 0 to take off fps meter

also try /cl_maxpackets 100

OK was just using Fraps - before i read your message. After putting in max fps in the console to 333 i get

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
23343, 184839, 64, 258, 126.288

thats after waiting for the pb to calm down - and if you stay on the same server - it's only when you log on!! Nice one!!!

OK so seems like i should probably go with fps either 125 (just under average) or 250 just under max - any suggestions?

Also will think about overclocking my cpu - but with the turbo i'm tempted to just leave that on - need a new cooler anyway.

I have 10 meg virgin fibre optic line. is it worth upgrading to 20?

Does max packets smooth things out on the internet side of things?

This is all GOLD btw...:D

latency on your internet wont make much difference if you have 10 meg or 20 so no point.

dont put 333 or you get kicked

what res you game at ?

use the commands and look at sky or floor and get figure in top right with
commands i put earlier

lowering textures and graphics might make it look worse but you can see stuff easier. also will keep fps higher.

set your fps to 250 some say 200 and 100 maxpackets upto you.

from sixty it will be like light and day difference

and the maxpackets thing?

Thanks Dg

strangely I had a issue when starting up the game the screen goes black colour, only once though thats it does not repeat itselfs, think it could be a sli thing anyhows another thing is I have Just bought a Logitech g15 keyboard it's a usb keyboard, noticed whilst pressing keys etc the game halts for a split second it does that all the way through the game, so I decided to unplug it. switched off pc plugged my PS2 dell keyboard back in problems gone.

sorry to hijack thread.
