CoD 5: World at War bizarre solo play problem

Has anyone managed to get single player working under Vista x64?

I click solo play and get 2 options - New Game and Mission Select.

If I click New Game, it asks me what difficulty. No matter which I select, it just takes me back to the Solo Menu.

So I try the Mission Select option. There's only one option (Semper Fi), so I click it and again it asks me to choose a difficulty. So I choose one, and I'm back at the Solo menu.

Am I just being an idiot, or should the game be starting?

Also, when I click "Go Online" in the top right, the game crashes.

Asus Rampage Formula Mobo
Intel Q6600 2.4GHz (at stock)
GeiL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500 Black Dragon Memory
ATI 4870 X2 (latest 8.11 drivers)
Vista x64

This happened to me have you restarted the game? if not try restarting your pc not sure exactly which one I did but it fixed it.

I don't think it's anything to do with spec:

Dual Intel Xeon Workstaion procesors Quad Core (8 cores intotal)
8Gb FBDimm Memory
3x15krpm sas drives
dual Ati 4870 512mb in crossfire
Soundblaster sound card

Maybe try playing with graphics settings etc?

I had this exact same issue, just couldnt start a damn game! It is not 64 related, Im on XP.

Its because the game isnt loading your profile correctly.
Here's the fix:

# Navigate to the folder :

* XP users :C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\
* Vista users : C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\

# Delete all the folders in there (if any)
# Create a new folder with the name of the Profile you want to use: e.g Player1 (folder remains empty)
# Create a text file called: active.txt (must NOT be readonly)
# Open active.txt and type in your profile folder name on the first line

Save and close. Restart CoDW@W. Job done

NB The "active.txt" file does NOT go in the folder you create. It at the level above it (in \profile)

Spot on; thanks a lot.

What a dumb problem for a game to have. An "Unable to load profile" message would have been a little more useful.
