COD Waw - Odd performance

Hey guys.

I fired up the PC not too long ago, as I fancied a game of COD. I hadn't played any games on it for ages... I noticed as soon as I started the single player campaign I wasn't getting a constant 60fps. Just looking anywhere near that large burning hut dropped the frame rate down to around 45fps.

I remember a while back, when I was using the PC a lot, I was always tweaking around with stuff, and messing with certain services. So I thought I might have buggered something. I un-installed the nVidia driver and downloading the latest one. I used the DriverSweeper application, and restarted in Safe Mode etc. No dice. I also noticed that when changing certain nVidia settings like Ambient Occlusion, Texture Sampling and the like, it didn't make any difference to the performance in COD. Even turning SLi off made no difference. The picture quality remained the same too, even when moving the AF slider in-game

ANYWAY. Since then, I've actually formatted my HDD and installed Windows 64bit Ultimate. I was on Vista 32bit before. And guess what? Yep, still doesn't run all that great. No difference whatsoever. :(

I have 2 GTX 280's in SLi and a Q9400 @ 3.2ghz. Surely I shouldn't be getting this level of performance in this game, should I? I've also noticed that playing the first level in the game, the ocean is no longer there, it's the same texture as the ground, and it does strange things as you move the viewing angle about.

Is there a good way for me to test my video cards to make sure they're working sufficiently?

Many thanks. :)

Ok, turn off vsync to allow the framerate above 60fps (SLI wont make a difference if one card can pull 60fps on its own). Also turn off any transparency antialiasing in NVidia drivers, should prevent massive performance drops around smoking buildings and such..

Otherwise I dont think there's anything wrong with your cards. What resolution are you playing at?

I turn Vsync off when trying to diagnose the frame rate issue. With this game, it's as if no settings make any difference. AF min and max look identical. Frame rates are the same no matter what I change... The only thing I haven't changed is the resolution.

If I put the AA transparency on Supersampling, it also doesn't effect the frame rate. WEIRD.

I'm sure it ran better when I played it with just one GPU. :( Although there was a period where it ran sweet with the SLi setup. What's gone on since then heaven knows...

I'm playing at 1900x1200.
