I've just put in a new SSD into my system so re-installing everything and I thought I'd put COD2 back on for a little WWII action. I can get the game to install, have patched up to version 1.3 and set to run as administrator. I always get an error about not having the disk in the drive, which I do.

So whether it be right or wrong I thought I'd try a nocd patch as that also saves the hassle of getting the disk off the shelf each time. The game now loads and I can hear the menu / video music but it will not display. By this I mean I can see the COD2 icon in the taskbar, click it, it opens up, I see a black screen, it closes back down to the taskbar.

Most frustrating! Does anyone else have any ideas? It's the only WWII FPS I still own so it'd be nice to get it working.

Cheers

So far I've tried it set with run as adminstrator, run as andministrator and XP sp3, run as XP sp2.

I wonder if it is to do with the GTX780 I fitted recently too as I'm sure it used to work with my old GTX480. I don't however recall any issues with it giving the error about having no disk. I can't figure out what else I have differently this time round, baffling to say the least.

Try uninstalling it, and re-install and don't bother with the patches.

From memory, it played fine for me under Win7 x64 and I didn't bother patching it because the patches were pretty much only fixes for the MP side of things.

That worked Matt. I say worked I installed, didn't update and applied a nocd patch as it still gave the error about not being able to read the CD/DVD.

Sadly, I have my CD Key, but cant find one of my discs, would have joined you for some Kar98k action.

I now have the game working yes but I had to uninstall, reinstall and not apply any updates so my game is at version 1.0

I then used a NoCD file which has the single player working. The multiplayer worked when patched to 1.3 which is weird.

I have a CD key hence no qualms about using a NoCD file as it is the license key I've paid for.

As an aside there is also a startup problem with older COD games if you don't have a microphone plugged in - though it produces a different error or just crashes straight to desktop.
