CoD2/GPU problems?

Hi guys,

I upgraded to an X1800XT a few months ago, from an X800XL. These problems never happened on my old card. Also, I added the new card while doing a full format, so drivers aren't the problem etc.

Anyway, I have a few problems - wanted to know if this is normal etc.

Firstly, some white parts of the map are incredibly intense. The shot below shows what I mean. The really bright wall has the same texture as all the other white walls.

This also happens on other objects too, sometimes the buttend of guns when you look down the sights etc.

The other problem is a sort of ghosting effect I get. On some textures, it's actually possible to see through them. The shot below shows what I mean to some extent, but it's much easier to notice when actually moving around:

If you look at the walls, you can see the sky through them. They're pretty much translucent.

This isn't a driver issue, as it happens on 6.7s, 6.8s and 6.9s. Is the card screwed or something?

Thanks for any help.

Well it seems to me judging by those screenshots and your fps that you are running the game in Dx9. Most likely when you loaded up cod2 it detected that your graphics card was capable of handling Dx9 and set it up to use it.

In Dx9 CoD2 looks a lot more prettier with lots of added affects like greater mussel flashes and glare from the sun, which is why the roofs on that desert map shine so much and you can kinda see through that wall which the sun is behind.

My advice to you would be to change your rendering method from Dx9, down to Dx7 (in the graphics option set the "Rendering Method Preference" to DirectX7, it's probably on "Auto" atm) and setting your max fps to 125(/com_maxfps 125). Not only will you go back to the save visuals that you had with your old gfx card, but you will notice a huge fps boost which will improve your playablity and will let you shoot the M1 Garand like a mini gun :D
