Ive been playing this again and forgot how good it was. I couldnt get on with COD4 multiplayer really as i hated walking 2 steps and getting bombed or helicopter killed. Back to the roots where you get your head snipered off if you poke it around a corner. Action is fast but precise, servers where grenades are disabled is even better (or rifles only)

Loving the kar98 rifle again

BF2 and COD2 all the way for me

I loved playing it on the Xbox 360 way back when, me and a friend got really good at it and ended up dominating most of the games we played. Too bad the 360 version had some terrible net code for 6 or so months.

Although this is where the series started to decline it is certainly a good game :D

Headshots especially... Rifles... Recoil, not much though :p

CoD UO is still where its at!

I never actually tried COD2 multiplayer, mostly because I didn't have internet at the time. Think I may pick it up again and give it a bash as I'm not a big fan of all these airstrikes and such in the new COD games.

is COD2 the one with the taunt "I've seen French school girls shoot better!"

if so yes it was Brilliant.

I tried installing this again about a week ago. Always got an error when trying to run the game, it would never launch. :(

Shame because back in the day my PC couldn't run it smoothly with all the eye candy. Would've been good to have seen what I was missing. :)

I always get that error when re instaling it, you just bypass that auto run feature and 'explore' the dvd and open up the setup.exe

I'll give that a try now, it's just trying to install again. I can't remember whether it successfully installed last time, or whether it failed during installation. If it does error when installing then it's definitely right near the end of the progress bar. :(

EDIT:

The installer gets right to the end of the progress bar and then I get the following message:

"Error 1305.Error reading from file
D:\Setup\Data\main\localized_english_iw06.iwd. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it"

I'll try your method of installation Thorpy.

EDIT: Baahhhhh! No good. It now comes up with a similar error message, but a different file. After a quick bit of Googling I'd say that it's more than likely the CD is borked, it looks like it's had better days.

Thats funny I re-installed this last week as I wasn't getting on with MW2.

I just prefer WW2 games and its nice to be able to run without constant helos, dogs, airstrikes whatnot blowing you up

Ahaa, cod 1 multiplayer through LAN at my college..
amazing ;)

i hear what your saying about the constant barrage of airstrikes, heli's and ac130's in MW2 it just dosn't seem the same, especially with the introduction of care packages!

must be the retro bug going round as i was just about to reinstall this aswell ..agree with thorpy though ..united offensive was the daddy for mp

COD and COD2 are the best of the series. The multiplayer is far purer than the console-friendly arcade insanity that is MW. I really enjoyed COD rifles only back in the day.:)

the atmosphere in Cod2 when say theres just say 6 of you playing and your creeping around and its dead silent apart from distant booms from time to time, that russian snow level in the fenced area is so creepy. and was it cod 1 where your in the snow the music was creepy. funny i was playing cod2 at the weekend myself, think this mw larks ok in small doses;)

Was about to reinstall this as well! :p I never did finish the single player campaign, but I remember enjoying what I played of it. :)
