COD2 - Noooooo!! (silo level)

Well, I finally cleared the last of the German houses, and was doing fine on top of the silo. Next thing, it says Checkpoint reached, and a mortar lands right next to me... I've got 3 seconds to get off the tower before it explodes and can't do that thanks to the soldier on the ladder... So now I'm going to have to replay this horrible horrible mission from the very beginning on veteran

Can you not let go of the ladder, fall past the soldier and then grab the ladder before breaking every bone on the ground blow?

I am assuming that you have cleared all the mortar teams and this is the one remaining mortar caught mid-air.

If you are only half way through the level then I feel your pain.

I'm at the point when it says 'Reinforcements in 1:49...' and the mortar was launched right before I killed the team. I've only got 3 seconds and one of the other soldiers is sitting at the top of the ladder, so I can't get past him before the mortar goes off
