Hi there, iv had COD4 for a few weeks now and have always had this anoying lag problem every 30-60 seconds, it plays totaly normal for 30 to 60 seconds then all of a sudden it will lag a lot basically like there is no internet connection, it also comes up sometimes with connection interupted, but then after a second or two it goes back to normal untill another 60 seconds has past.

This is the most anoying thing in the world, i do have a wireless router but i am hooked up to it via a wire, could i still be getting lag when connected through a wire?

I also get the same problem from another pc in this house, so its not my pc playing up.

Thanks a lot guys.

Sam.

It happens in all servers, its strange, just a second ago it was working perfect, then all of a sudden it went the same agen, i have never been kicked for loosing packets... this is really anoying me now :(

This connection is shared between me and two brothers, one plays the game and the other just searches the internet and both say there not downloading ect...

And my brother is getting the same thing as me on his pc...

Yes also tried turning off all background programmes but nothing seems to work, im thinking it could be down to the wireless router, but can it still cause problems if im wired up to it and not gone wireless?

Funny you mention this, I have the exact same problem, plays fine, then 2 seconds of lag out, then back to normal (Always happens when you are out of cover too doesn't it :S)

I am quite sure it is down to my wireless router, so I would assume the same for you.

I had this problem when i had a d-link wireless router it really p'd me off it was lag spike, try resetting the router / changing the channels? in the end tbh i couldn't cure it , i even rang our isp's but with no luck, so i brought a new linksys router and i aint had any problems at all!!

:D

Exactly what happens, i was thinking it was more than likely the router, just wanted to make sure really before just buying one...

It sounds like you have lag spikes associated with the Wireless Zero Configuration that automatically polls for new networks. In XP it is a seperate service, in Vista it is in-built. If you are hard-wired, try disabling any wireless hardware you have, or in XP disable that specific service. In Vista, there are Wireless Optimisation tools you can download (like Vista Anti Lag or something, see this thread to sort this behaviour out. Not sure why it would be messing you up if you are hard wired, unless there are specific settings on your PC that make it poll for available networks (maybe you use third party software to manage your wireless connection?).
