I've bought this game purely for multiplayer alone. Has anyone stripped it down to keep only the multiplayer files in the game folder?

If so, please share...

Please refrain from pointless messages about playing the single player or asking why you'd want to remove the single player files. Thank you.

You may save around 900MB removing the .ff files for the SP maps - the rest would have to stay... and due to the crazy way COD4 was developed you can never be entire sure until it crashes if there are any cross dependancies even then.

Thanks a lot Rroff.

I saw a few downloadable versions that claimed to reduce the size to 4GB. I didn't want to trust my genuine serial on an unknown download so figured I'd try to do it manually.

Don't think I'll bother in this case.

Why would you want to strip it down for the sake of 1 or 2 gig?

Above comment makes no sense? lol.

No he just bought a 64GB SSD (guess) and decided he wanted to put every single thing on it because he didn't think about it did he. -.-

See if you can get a file manifest for the "streamlined" installs?

Personally I don't think its worth it tho unless you just play stock maps, never know what it might break with 3rd party maps that assumed you had the full install. You might get away with removing the single player map files as I said but that doesn't save much.

Maybe he has it on an SSD and saving space is essential.

I have COD4 on a regular HDD and it loads in literally 1-2 seconds. Maps load in a few seconds. Putting this particular game on SSD therefore makes no sense. (I'm assuming everyone with an SSD in their desktop machine, also has at least one regular HDD).

It's in the top 5 most played games on xfire, but it does seem quieter than it was...the servers with a lot of regular players are the servers for specific maps such as Crash 24/7 and Crossfire 24/7.

There arent as many servers as there were with good map rotation.

Well if you look hard enough you will find some decent servers, where you can get good games, but every cod 4 server used to be like that, now its all Crossfire 24/7 team deathmatch, Crossfire 24/7 search and destroy.

still quite a busy game started playing this Co2& 5 again after a long lay off was surprised at how busy 2 and 4 are
