help guys i cant seem to find a sweet spot for my setup and cod4
rigs new
stock q6600
4 gig of ram
8800gt oc2
24 inch screen at 1920x1200
vista 64

as far as i was aware i should be able to run cod4 flat out np

Well im struggling at 1680x1050 textures all to high the bar above/filtering on medium. glow off AA at 2x somethimes off total
Now the game doesnt feel smooth no were near and im not even at my screens natice res. Its as if the frames nose dive really bad.

I was expecting to run this game no hassle with all high candy maxed out, what gives?

Yes it should run it perfectly realy, mine does (in sig) @ 1680x1050, x4 AA, extra textures etc. Are you sure you have latest drivers for your GPU, and everything else?

My rig in sig runs COD4 uber lovely at 1920x1200. My CPU is fater obviously and my GTX is more suited to this res but i think you would see a nice boost by ensuring that you have AA/AF set to 'application controlled'. Once i done that i saw the slight slowdown on the rescue the russian dude mission (at the very start in the swamp) disapear and thats with all game sound and graphic settings to max (and NV control panel settings to max bar the AA/AF as mentioned).
Is your 8800gt the 512mb version?

Fair chance you'll have problems on a 24" screen, i've seen recommended the GTS or GTX for that size screen.

As with both people on here who say it runs fine flat out, both have GTX's.

True but mine didnt until i set 'Application Controlled' for the AA/AF, its worth a try.

aye, but in all likely hood the GT won't be able too even without AA/AF at 1920 from what i've seen posted around.

There only seem to be a couple of sticky parts, it seams relatively well coded compared to many multi format games (Dirt), im sure i read somewhere that COD4 was designed initialy for the PC.
As most of the action is scripted it isnt as demanding on the hardware as some other FPS. Dropping shadows is always a place to start when you need to claw back a few frames per second.

I have 2 GT's and with 4xAA and no AF some maps drop to 40fps especially when sniping thats with all settings maxed @ 1920 1200 but 2xAA is playable.
