COD4 Saving online rank etc when unstalling

Hi guys

Does anyone know what happens to your online rank and perks you pick up in COD4 when you uninstall it?

I'm formatting my machine and reinstalling in a new config so I need to back up what's needed. Is the rank etc. stored online and linked to your keygen or is it just with the savegames?

Back-up the files from:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players

It's a good idea to back it up anyway so you don't lose your rank for any other reason.
It's lots of hours play time you'd have to replay

So you have to back it up - that's ridicilous.
Can't you just log into your account and your rank will be saved?

No you cant, all stats are saved locally in a mpdata file. Yes its ridicilous as I found out the hard way, lost all my stats when my raid failed and had to restart all over. Apparently the mpdata files are tied in with cdkeys which is suppose to stop stat cheating but from what Ive heard theres workarounds :rolleyes:

FFS - just went back to XP after the game performance in UT3 under Vista was shocking... now I find this out!!!

For me its the only thing that bad, and imo very short sighted by IW, about the whole game. Maybe they will introduce a proper ranking system. Would be great to see a world wide ranking system.

But yes agree for all cod4's greatness this is very poor.

I ranked all the way to 18 and then my Vista install went "pete tong" on me so I did a fresh install, I could not believe it when I started up the MP again to find it was all gone?

WTF how pants.. I back up the file after every session I have now to be oon the save side
