Well, I have three more missions to go:

Blowtorch and Corkscrew, Heart of the Reich, and Downfall. I have to say that this is the most infuriating single player game I have ever played. Even the Mile High Club achievement wasn't as bad as this. With that you had to play well for around 2 minutes, with this the misery just never ends. I'm getting grenade spammed for hiding in cover and I'm getting completely prawned when I try and run and gun. I can't seem to find any decent guides on the internetz either. :(

Blows hard. Anybody else had problems with Blowtorch and Corkscrew?

There's no easy way through - but try the guide on Nextgenwalkthroughs.com. It's a video guide with commentary that is pretty good.

I stopped playing COD5 ages ago, but I remember getting past that stage and getting stuck on the next one - Heart of the Reich. I never had the perseverance to finish it. For me COD5 doesn't have the elusive 'one more go' factor that it's predecessors had.

aw man took me so long to complete veteran
Just memorise the spawns through repetition of dying

pop out of cover and shoot - then pop back - constantly
Will get there eventually

Now the last level is gawd damn hard. The snipers of doom :(

I flew through the last level after the first bit where you enter the Reichstag, however getting in there was a pain in the ass, majorly so.

Blow torch was a git, smoke and run was the best way

:) At the moment I've cleared all three bunkers and proceeded up a hill where you follow a tank that inevitably gets destroyed. Then Polonsky shouts something like "Christ! it's a fortress" Then I just spent the past 20-25 minutes patiently picking off enemies from behind a rock, I finally pushed up a little allowing my team mates to be triggered, they ran ahead, I got a "Game Saved" note in the top corner so I went Rambo, killed a few enemies and died on a grenade only to be put back to the bottom of the hill, nowhere near the apparent save... Man this game is unforgiving.

The Heart of The Reich mission btw, I have attempted and failed many, many times. I'm determined to crack this little bitch though. I've completed all achievements in COD4 and I have to say it's a breeze compared to this mother. :(

It's tough, no question.

Try using smoke nades on the levels you have them, sometimes you can lay 3/4 and just sprint higher up the map. Your team mates will then follow you and clear out the enemy.

It soon becomes more of a "i'll finish this if its the last thing i do!!" type game on veteran.

Can't remember the name of the level (lotssss of grass at the start and you have a flamethrower) that one almost made me give up.

That's Blowtorch and Corkscrew, Or, As I've come to call it, Blow me and Screw me seeing as it was so goddamn hard to finish. :(

I'm yet again stuck on Heart of the Reich now though. My main motivation was to 100% the game but I've just noticed that they added about another 15 achievements for the downloadable content which I don't intend to buy seeing as I haven't made many XBL friends that actually play zombie mode on COD :(

They added achievements?! AARGHHHHHH!

Guess I'll have to get the DLC and play the game again :p

Edit: Are they all zombie related achievements?

The 2 that stick out for me that were insanely hard were the ones where you had the flamethower with all the long grass (Blowtorch & Corkscrew) and the one where you have to destroy 3 guns before entering a big building (Heart of The Reich). I do remember both of those taking a long time to complete, as long as you remember to keep making progress forward to trigger save points you should be fine, sometimes that involved ignoring the Nazis and sprinting lol.

On Heart of The Reich I remember being at the bottom of the steps to the Reichstag thinking how do I get up there, I was just getting wasted every time i tried to make progress? In the end I found a sniper rifle on top of the building to the right (as you look at the Reichstag) which made it easy to clear out all the Nazis on the steps, my team could then advance and trigger the save.

You can get the Zombie achievements offline, I know I did!

Yeah you can get the zombie achievements offline. And yes, all the new achievements are zombie based. I just think it would be a little easier to obtain them with friends. Especially the achievements for surviving to high levels and particularly the achievement for getting to level 20 without being knocked down once.

I've just completed Heart of the Reich and I'm on the very last mission for veteran. :) With Heart of the Reich when you are at the bottom of the steps of the Reichstag all you need to do is continually snipe the spawning enemies from the building with the sniper rifle, or the adjacent building. Eventually Reznov and the ai will actually push up by themselves for once. Then, you hide behind the staff car near the top of the stairs which you can get to just by sprinting, the mission ends soon after. I have to say that this has been a very difficult game to complete on Veteran. I completed COD4 on veteran and in comparison to this, that felt like a cakewalk.

I really didnt find this that hard. :/ Just keep trying, you will do it.

I'd say that you didn't find it to be a breeze either. It's definitely difficult, not impossible, but still a frustrating experience nonetheless. It is true that if you slowly advance at a snails pace you can make it through most of the missions unscathed, although there are instances of terribly unbalanced enemy spawning in certain situations and the grenade spamming is beyond excess. Veteran doesn't seem to be an increase in difficulty, just an increase in unbalanced and unfair advantages of your enemies, rendering your team mates useless in most situations and your enemies overpowered. :)

Playing this game on veteran landed up with me hating the game. Just far too frustrating to be considered anything resembling fun. Even worse than Ninja Gaiden games on higher difficulty settings.

I'm on the final part of 'Downfall' the last mission, I'll be glad when it's done so I can move on to the more fun achievements, like killing the general with a pistol. :D

EDIT:

Well I've finally completed the little bugger. I'll now never play the single player again. Thought the ending was a complete rip off of COD4 though. Treyarch... *Tuts*

Snap - exactly my sentiments. CoD 4 Modern Warfare on veteran was still bloody frustrating at times but remained fun because it had a more compelling plot, more varied level design, and far more memorable characters. It was really satisfying to complete Mile High Club and get to 1000/1000 points.

CoD 5 just doesn't have the same atmosphere. Im sure if I kept at it, I would eventually have got to the end, but life's too short.

At least with games like Ninja Gaiden, you feel like progression is linked to your own skill, rather than just pure luck.

That's true, in COD4 I found myself caring about the characters. In WAW however, just before you enter the Reichstag one of the Russian dudes gets killed and they make such a big deal out of it but it's like, I don't care. Treyarch really made the characters so forgettable. I can't even remember the name of the character voiced by Kiefer Sutherland. COD4 on the other hand, bang on job of nailing down some memorable characters, Cpt Price, Macmillan of course! Even though he's only in one level and who could forget Gaz? :D

"I'm serious, and don't call me Shirley" :p
