Codec pack for Windows 7?

K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack is designed for Windows up to and including Win7. It works flawlessly and sets up DXVA for MPCHC automatically so you're not stuck with WMP (or else a rather complex self-setup) for DXVA. Like Shark007's pack, it has an x64 pack component too. Runs without a hitch here.

This, and only this.

i had issues with Shark's pack and my media player of choice, MPC-HC, and i had to start using KM player instead.

Specifically, i couldn't get the shark-codecs to work with anything other than media player, and thus i was stuck with the default CPU-rendering for MPC-HC and everything looked like crap.

still, KM-player's awesome - never need to worry about codec's again!

I've not used a codec pack in years. I install MPC-HC (which comes with FFDShow based filters) I then add coreavc for h.264 playback and ac3filter for amazing audio decoding. That's all you need. If you want ffdshow based filters for other apps than MPC you can install the ffdshow tryouts instead of using the built in MPC-HC ones.

But that combination should play just about anything other than real.

Someone else with sense :p

yeah, it's good until you want media centre.....

shark's codec pack is a clean codec pack, use that

See my above post, install the FFDshow Tryouts as well as ac3filter and core avc and you can play absolutely everything in anything that can handle video for windows filters. That includes Windows Media Player and Media Center.
