Codec problem

Hi all, I have a problem where I cannot hear speech in games, I can hear all other sounds but not speech.
I can hear sounds in all the videos I've tried except one which is an avi file allthough other avi files play fine and music files play fine as well.

I've had a google but been unable to come up with any solutions, I've tried installing a codec pack ( cant remember which one - sorry) but the problem remains.

If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them, thanks in advance.

Just a thought, have you got audio set to 5.1 but just using 2 x speakers, as this would output speech to a separate speaker that you don't have.

Update your direct x 9 files

Google.. dxwebsetup.exe

That fixes sound in some games, also

I've got a 5.1 sounds system & it's set to 5.1, tested the speakers and there is sound coming from all, I'm sure this is a codec problem.

Forgot to say I'm using windows 7.
