Codec?

What sort of codec do i need to play most movies ? i have got divx what else do i need?

Get vlc http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

i haven't come across something yet that it wont play, small download too

*edit - realise now you asked for codec , doh , but i still say get vlc instead

Either VLC or ffdshow with Media Player Classic are the likely suggestions.
