i've got an xvid that when its runs locks up my machine and closes the directory window. it how ever works fine on another machine so im guessing its my codecs.

what are the best codecs to install ?

Don't install codecs packs, you don't need them. It's a good way to screw up your machine.

I have never seen the klite codec screw up a machine. And I did try just the ffdshow last time around. However the playback stutters (all be it slightly) compared to the full pack.

ok will give that a shot. i dont tend to play about with them because its annoying when they go wrong. the only time i do is when they get outdated and begin to show.

Dont bother with codecs just get vlc player.

I use the Combined Community Codec pack here, never had any probs at all, no screwed up machine here.
