When I try to run Dirt 2 I get an error message saying the exe has stopped working. I have done a lot of troubleshooting.
My original PC specs were
Win 7
I7 2600k
Asus P8P67 pro (first revision model with latest BIOS installed).
8 GB G Skill Ripjaw ram
GTX 580
GTS 450 (for physics)
ASUS Xonar D2X
1 TB hard drive
DVD writer
As a test I took out the GTX 580 and ran the game with only the GTS 450 in. Then Dirt 2 worked ok. I then tried with just the 580 in and the exe problem came back. Thinking it may be the slot I was using on the motherboard I tried the 580 in both slots. I also tried it under win XP and win 7. I tried many diferent graphic card drivers.
So in conclusion Dirt 2 worked ok with the 450 on its own but with the 580 on it's own I get the dirt 2 exe has stopped working error message. I also tried dirt 1 and 3 and got the same exe problem.
As it was only dirt games I had a problem with I wasn't that bothered. My PC worked perfectly apart from running dirt games.
About 2 years later I bought a new motherboard and SSD
My current PC specs are
Win 8
I7 2600k
Asus amaximus v Gene.
8 GB G Skill Ripjaw ram
GTX 580
ASUS Xonar D2X
250 GB Samsung SSD drive
DVD writer
I am still getting the Dirt 2 exe error message when trying to run Dirt 2. Apart form the Dirt games programs and games run fine on my PC.
It was niggling me as I knew my PC should be able to run Dirt games. I decided to put a post on the codemaster forums to see if I could get an answer. The last answer I got said there is a problem with nvidia 500 series (and above) graphics cards and codemaster racing games.
"It would appear there is an inherent bug in all the Codemaster driving games (not surprising), that has not been fixed since the nvidia 500 and above series of cards have come out.
The 500, 600 and 700 series have a new chipset that is incompatible with those games. This leads me to think that Nvidia and Codemasters are not communicating so well with each other, since Intel became a major sponsor of Codemaster games.
I have gtx 550ti and it doesn't work with Grid 2. The last game that the card works with from Codemsaters is ironically Grid 1. Which uses a different game engine."
Does anybody know if this is true or not? Anybody on the forum have a 500 series or above graphics card and is able to play Dirt?
