Codemasters buys Slightly Mad Studios

Has Ian Bell bought his fifth luxury yacht yet? ;)

Didn't see that one coming, but not visited Project Cars 2 forum in ~12 months.

Slightly do good VR in their games.

This can either go two ways, they either bring VR to Codemasters portfolio, or they get sucked under the corporate banner of apologist pleasantly that they normally afford to VR.

I fear the later.

i said on dirt discord i think they may make a rallycross game and dirt team may concentrate on just rally. something will obviously happen. pcars as much as i hate the titles they made money. so it makes sense money wise. the thing is what is next ? is it worth 30m ?

What happened to that console slightly mad studios said they were making ? Im guessing it got binned for being one of the worst ideas in the history of gaming.

So long as Ian Bell has got binned in this buyout then it's most likely good news.

Given the success of Project Cars I'm shocked the studio is worth so little, $30m is peanuts for a gaming studio.

It's $30m upfront, more to come apparently.

Codemasters had to pay $30 million upfront, “$25 million in cash, and $5 million in stock”, to acquire the studio. Considering Slightly Mad’s EBITDA over the next three years, this value can reach as high as $166 million, but analysts at Liberum predict a total amount along the line of $67.9 million.

I used to love the TOCA series. If they could make a touring car centred game, British, World, DTM, Super GT, Aussie Supercars.. I'd be all over it.

Although licences I guess mightn't be so straight forward.

This is probably bad news. They need to get rid of the majority of people at Codemasters.

Dirt Rally 2 was terrible at launch and took 9 months to get "Better". F1 is pretty average, and Grid is pretty average.

I think if you read the 100's of reviews in the first 8 months. Dirt rally 2 was absolutely terrible at launch. You were to busy setting WR's with no force feedback to realise.....................

i think the key thing is taking from what you said and reviews. actual reviews scored the game very highly. thrustmaster has weak ffb in dirt games for eg and people blamed the game. the ffb is fine for 95 percent of users.

if we going to do blanket statements there is no point continuing replies to posts. absolutely terrible at launch yet scored highly across all reviews. words can mean so much.

check steam reviews aswell. mainly positive. i can understand a user being disgruntled if it doesnt meet their expectations but when most are enjoying dirt rally 2.0 with no issues you cant really label it as you do.

Codies games are not consistent in quality.
One game is good doesnt mean the next is the same or better.
Hope slightly mad wont fall into the same pit.
