Coffee for 2

It's tradition in some towns in Southern Italy, relates to a Roman Catholic saint, the coffee is dedicated to someone they've recently lost and they appeal to the saint to guide their loved one into the next life. She should allow them to leave the coffee there for the duration of their time in the store, if you go into some cafe's in Italy you'll see a few cups/mugs filled with coffee at the end of the counter, sometimes accompanied with a single candle or some small photos of loved ones. If you are interested in learning more about this phenomenon then you should realise that this is GD and I just created that story.

This is excellent.

...but what if he DIDN'T get his coffee? You said no big deal IF he got his coffee, paid and exited.

How often didn't he get his coffee that it became a big deal?!

That sounds like it’d be a real nice thing, and it would show compassion, would that it were true,
I’d like it, but I still can’t help silently seething at the OPs use of expresso instead of espresso.
