Hi guys,

I'm wanting to get a coffee machine for my wife, but she really wants one which does Lattes.

From my research, I have found a couple, including the Tassimo, which offer the "Latte Macchiatto".

I'm not knowledgable on coffee at all - is this the same as a latte, or different?

Can anyone suggest a suitable machine.

Thanks, in anticipation, and if it does seem a stupid question, I guess I'm stupid ;) ;)

a hob powered percolator is as good as gets (perfect body/perfect flavour), and it'll cost you hardly anything

add some double cream to float on top of your percolated brew, and i swear you'll never be happier with coffee

My dad had one of those.
Was making himself an espresso once, phone rang, he left it on the hob without putting water in it. 2-3 mins later the whole house smells of burntish coffee. Was so good :D

Just over a year ago, I bought a Krups Type 880 for about £90 from John Lewis. I wasn't sure that I could justify shelling out for an all-singing, all-dancing machine. It was the best buy ever. I use it EVERY SINGLE MORNING!

However, I don't use the frother because it takes too long to clean it between uses. I heat half a coffee cup of milk in the microwave ,put it under the espresso dispenser on the Krups and switch on for about 10 seconds. I decided not to go for one of the "pod" type machines because they cost a fortune to run - a bit like a refills for an ink-jet printer really.

Incidentally, I still buy Lattes from Prets, Nero, etc. when I'm out and about but it doesn't taste as good (strong) as my home made brew.

Forgive me, but isnt this a cappuccino maker ?

Can it make Latte too?
So far as I am aware, Latte is just a fancy term for Milky Coffee; so strictly speaking, yes.
As I understand it, Cappuccino is a Latte with froth and optionally with chocolate on top.

However. so long as you like the taste, who cares what it is called?

Iirc a Latte should be 1/2 espresso and 1/2 heated milk where as a Cap is 1/3 espresso 1/3 heated milk and 1/3 frothed milk.

i think that may well change depend on who your listening to, but our lattes are made 1/3 coffee / 2/3 milk. It is strong coffee, mind. Our cappuccino are 1/3,1/3,1/3

Actually that sounds more like it. Its that long since i read it on a recipe sheet i got with my coffee maker.

My Mum got a Nescafé Dolce Gusto for Christmas and it's awesome.

I use it 1-2 times a day, it's really great tasting coffee.

You can get different capsules for it (including Latte), with Hot Chocolate ones coming out soon
