Guys

Im looking to custom build a case which doubles as a coffee table. Its just in the early research stages at the moment so I haven't got any concrete plans as yet. I really like the sliding draw of this product:

Any ideas how the airflow be affected? as the fans are actually inside the draw and obstructed by the table when the draw is closed. Trying to limit the amount of holes in the side of the case so if I could get away with setting up the fans like they are in the dk-q1 above that would be great! Obviously the other option would be to build the side of the table using mesh?

I'd imagine that putting some slots in the back wall of the drawer or "draw" as you call it would be the best option, you wouldn't see them externally as the drawer is within the inner frame.
I think that's what you are getting at?? But the black mesh would be a great camouflage, like a audio speaker

lol, apologies for my abhorrent illiteracy! :)

I was talking about the intake and outlet fans on either side of the DRAWER :)

If you look at the images the sides of the desk are solid but the sides of the drawer are mesh. So when the drawer is closed the mesh will be obscured by the solid sides of the desk. Which makes me question the effectiveness of the fans?

Ah do you actually plan to buy that exact desk? I thought you meant you were going to build something similar.

Going by the drawer pic air will be drawn in up the side even when it's closed, it's not like it's in an air tight situation. I think you'll be fine with air been drawn in, because it's not set within a completely enclosed surrounding desk.

Its not much different than cases like the Fractal R4 that have a solid panel front and draw air for the front intakes through a gap around the edge.

Im not going to buy the desk. Just trying to get ideas about cooling and the draw idea would work well in my build.

Ok, so aslong as there is space around the draw the fans will do their job? I just cant help thinking that the hot air which the outlet fans eject from the draw will only be recycled by the intake fans on the other side if there is nowhere for the hot air to go?

Also it looks like the fractal case does have holes in the side of the case for the fan?

I like the idea but im looking at making it a little less obvious when it is not in use as it will double as a coffee table in the middle of my living room.

Will get a sketchup plan drawn up at some point

I have the Lian Li DK-Q1, which you linked in your original post, and I also have its bigger brother, the DK-01X.

Concerning the fans which are installed on either side of the draw, which are then blocked when the draw is pushed back into the desk.

These fans still get plenty of airflow, as there are vents underneath the desk \ draw which allow the air to come into the chassis.

As already mentioned on here, its really no different to some tower cases which have a solid front, but with vents around the outside to let the air in.
