I haven't had much experience of RTS games but I really fancy having a go at one.
I really like the look of Company of Heroes and Total War:Medieval 2.
Which of these two would be the easier for an RTS novice like myself?

Not played ME2 but COH isnt easy. Its great fun and tough if you have it on a high setting.(Not easy setting)

You do really feel like you are in a battle when they push you back into your base area and you have to defend like mad.

ME2 ill be able to tell you after Christmas. But I would get both if possible, totally different experiences in my opinion.

I dont think you can go wrong with either. Have fun.

I did mean its easy to play. i.e. getting used to rts style games. Some of the levels may be a bit taxing to win. :)

I'd personally go for Medieval 2. I enjoyed CoH, but it didn't live it to the hype for me, kept expecting the campaign to ramp up and get more fun, but it didn't. Found it extremly easy, I was very very surprised when the game ended, I thought I was about half way through, espeically with the difficulty.

Medieval 2 is a mix of turn based and real time, its a lot more involved but much more fun with some truely epic battles.

Hey check out my recent thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17661243&highlight=rts

I went for COH inc Dawn of war pack for £18 delivered which is a fantastic deal! I'm yet to istall DOW but COH has been fantastic so far!

I may order Medieval 2 as I really wanted it :)

COH has a brilliant feeling to it, much more rewarding imo as the aftermath is awesome

My post from the screenshots thread:

"COH RoxXers

Loving this game"

Ive got the RTW series and expecting MTW2 for Xmas but COH is very very good, i played the skirmish maps for a while before moving onto the campaign game. There are some good trainers on various web sites that remove the population cap lreading to some very large battles.

got COH, excellent game but as someone pointed out, its rather easy. multiplayer is excellent as well though and worth it for that.

looking forward to ME2 more but havent bought it because it will take up a lot of time.

if your new to RTSs COH will be better introduction I think, easier controls, easier gameplay and good engine.

I would expect ME2 to be more challenging overall with more advance planning/strategy required for the campaigns.

Yes medieval 2 requires a lot more thinking. COH is erm.. i dunno, its good graphics, gameplay wise but somehow it doesnt blow me away as much as medi 2

COH is excellent
not got ME2 but i assume its a more goldy version of RTW

RTW sometimes felt like 2 games in one: TBS and also an RTS game as well. So its more involved and deeper maybe.

tempted to get ME2 myself.... hrmmm. Anyone got screenshots of it on a HIGH end system? Does it play ok?

Slight thread jack the screenshot is very nice and I'm so bloody tempted to order it! Mass battle!

Just a couple of questions, is it a resource based game? Can you build units etc?

Theres two sides to the game, the turn based campaign map where you build your cities/armies and move them about, gold is gained each turn which is dependant on your city incomes. And the real time battle map where your units get down and dirty. Best checking out the quite large thread about the game tbh :p

Also something to point out, the first patch for ME2 is out which, from what i've seen so far, has fixed a lot of stuff and made it more enjoyable.
