Hey peeps,

I've tried googling and searching this forum but, though I can find some people complaining (on google), found no answers...

I have a new retail copy of Company of Heroes. Awesome game, really love it!
BUT I couldn't play online ('sign up' was greyed out). I managed to find out I needed to patch it so, after much annoying learning how to use torrents, I managed to get the necessary patches.

However, when I try to install said patches I get the following message:

"Could not determine the Company of Heroes installation directory from the Windows Registry. Please make sure that Company of Heroes is installed correctly"

It is installed correctly (I re-installed a couple of times). I've read somewhere that it's because I use a 64-bit operating system (Win 7 64-bit).

Can anyone help?
I know the basics of registry and how to get there, but never come across this sort of problem before...

Never had any trouble with CoH on 64bit myself.

Was it bog standard original CoH you got or any of the expansions/bundles?

CoH does require patching in order as all the patches are incremental iirc so make sure your starting with the right patch.

There was a site somewhere that had detailed guides on patching CoH and the expansions, maybe google will find it.

Edit: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=108081 might help a bit.

Yup just the plain ol' vanilla CoH original :P

Got the two necessary ones - 1.00 to 1.40 and 1.40 to 2.101 (took ages to get the second, it's huge!).

Thanks for the links!
The second one was so promising until I got the the folder where the CoH should have been to edit the filepath so it would work... but nothing >_> No file. Twas tumbleweed city in there lol.

I'll have to keep looking around, I'm sure there must be an answer.

Cheers G-Man :)

Oh, righto. Looks like I'll have to look into getting that then. I was planning just to buy and play them in order - but if I need them for it to work then that's the way to go then.

How dissapointing of them -_-

Thanks peeps :)

there is no order really...

TOV has some new campaigns

but basically its all the same game. the best part is online NOT the campaigns themselves.

but u can probably pick TOV up for less than £10 anyway

A mate of mine has bought the retail version twice to try and get the patches etc working with no joy whatsoever so he ended up getting it on Steam (I think its about £7 atm) and it all gets updated automatically!!!

Well worth getting it on Steam for me, I've never had any problems logging in (although connecting to online games is still hit and miss!!!)

Got to be worth £7 of anyones money for such a great game!!!

The CoH patching system is crap, which is a shame as the game itself is great. I recommend buying the Anthology (its very cheap atm) as that is just a couple of patches away from being able to play online unlike Vanilla which feels like ten billion trillion annoying patches away.

well i have the retail version of:

Opposing forces, original, and TOV all install, patch and run fine on Windows 7 64 bit.

however it is faster and easier to go straight from TOV as it requires less patchwork, and u can just add your other version keys to unlock any previous content and campaigns from the previous versions. so u dont lose anything via doing this.

shopto have TOV for £5.99 you cant really grumble at that price!

Righto, ToV it is then :P
Looking forward to it, hope it works!

I'm loving the game as it is anyway. The campaigns are great!

The gameplay reminds me very much of the old game 'Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far' - except modernised and with added base building. (I spent hours and hours on that game lol)

Yup

Awesome game, terrible update procedure, even with steam it's a pain..

I have one copy on steam (mine), and my brother's TOV as retail

yes i used to play Close Combat religiously.

i have CC3-4-5 plus the Cross of iron, and Golden Juno, Eastern front, about 4 other full mods with maps etc.

i used to have a a laptop set up and a pc LAn in the same room so me and my maye could play head to head campaign vs each other. was such great fun!

'Acgh the armour izt zuu stark!!'

COH is my faster paced CC replacement
