Just fired this up after a few months of non use -

It's had me download and install several patches, after whcih you have to install and restart.

Absolute crap

What do you expect...they are always updating the game

Wheres the issue? would you rather it be run with bugs or not?

Fair enough, but COH was OK to begin with. It's been over a GB in patches which take an age to download and longer to install. I just want to play the damn single player game!

Hang on...COH?

Which game are you talking about?

Yeah, Company of Heros.

I wouldn't mind if I had to downlaod one big patch, but its a series of little annoying ones, and I have to restart the app each time... I've been here over an hour!!!

Edit: Just as I write this it wants me to download another 80 megs!!! I've had enough! I'm off to Ut3 :p

oh sorry! I thought you meant City Of Heroes - which I know is notorious for its updates etc. Same applys though ;)

They still can't balance the game properly though (last time I checked, Sherman Crocs were still overpowered). Not only that, they didn't think to bother updating the GOTY version either. Best bet is to download the patches outside of the game via other websites, then update.

Was about to start a simialr thread yesterday as i installed coh again. I HAd 5 patches downloaded and had to download 5 more lol. my folder with the coh patches is over 2 gig. Now thats support.

boooo lets start a petition to stop developers providing post release support boooo

Hardly the point is it, CoH forces you to download and install patches, you cannot choose to do them later if you wish to do so even if all you want to play is the single player campaign.

pull ** network cable or get a firewall to block the game, if it cant connect to relic it will ask you to put ** cd and you can play offline

Nothing wrong with patches but i agree the system they have them be forced apon u isn't very good.. this is relic onlines fault though the game didn't use to do this

this is why steam rocks

i install it to D:\Steam , and back that up say monthly, each time i format C:\ it's just still there and works straight off :D

One thing I dislike about DoW and CoH is the patching. They release many patches which is great, but they don't always offer a patch with every new version that will update it from any version to the latest one.

Point missed my about a mile :p

They need to issue a cumulative patch each time a new patch is released, so if you're installing from new, you just have to get the latest cumulative patch rather than hunt down half a dozen smaller ones.

Some devs make the effort, but a lot of them don't.

true a full patch has always been missing, other than installing of which would patch u to the correct version from any other version before it.. that was many patches ago now though ;)

I am wanting to get COH when I get XP or Vista installed on my iMac via Boot Camp. What is the best way to get the game and avoid all these patching problems? From Steam?

Cheers
