I got thought the campaign ok, just one restart on the defending the hill mission.. (albeit on 'normal' settings).

However I've tried a few basic 1v1 2v2 skirmish on the normal AI, and I just get OWNED! :(
I take about half the map to gain 'money' and I'm trying to hold the points and build a few +40% watchtower things. And eventually snipers arrive and hit and run me! If I try and take fewer money-points and hold those, eventually a few tanks arrive before I've even constructed a tank building!

I remember things were sometimes tricky with C&C3, but the AI here seems to be very fast/good/annoying!

Any tips?!

CoH is very different tactically to other RTS games, because of the resource system.

The best thing to do would be to go over to Tales of Heroes - at http://talesof.wordpress.com/ (a temporary version of their website), and watch some of the video replays. They host wmv files of matches between top league CoH players, with the two guys commentating on the tactics. I'd start from the beginning of the series and see how you go. You'll pick up a lot of ideas, tactics and strategy from them.

nice info timbob cheers, ive just re-installed with the dx10 patch but cant remember where i place the replays can you tell me what folder they go in plz ?

a good offence is a good defence, you will have to play a few games if your new to skirmish to pick up on the weak points and places of interest on the map, you could use tank traps, barbed wire and sandbags to prevent the AI from using certain routes as the AI wont try to destroy road blocks.

try to inforce key points to hold off troops and build up a good attack force to over see your troops.

if you're allies, then equip your Riflemen with the BAR upgrade, then sticky bombs (awesome against tanks), then grenages (in the barracks), build sentry guns with engineers, and build medic stations near them.. -you get free 6 men when 6 oof yours die then

then build some of the m1 anti tank guns near the sentry guns

-make sure to pick the commander options too, you get them in skirmish :)

the Parachute one is a good one for starters, because you can quickly get units when you need them

the Soldiers one (can't remember its real name) is awesome as it gives you Rangers, build sandbags around your troops which are defending things, when they've got the green shield next to them, they'll be a lot harder to kill :)

to kill snipers, just storm in with 2x squadrens of Riflemen

do the upgrades on your Supply Yard, after you've done both of the upgrades, the 'upkeep' (manpower) used by your troops will be halved, so you get more manpower each minute :)

2vs2 is a good place to start, set the pc as Easy if you're having difficulty, then set one of them to medium, then both etc..

I just had a mtach on rails on metal. It was weird. When i played allies at normal with cpu team mate as hard i got the stuffing kicked out of me, but when i was German with same AI i won by miles??? May be i prefere germans.

the massive missile thing you get with one of the german generals is devastating :), such an unfair weapon imo :D

i'm at a pretty similar stage COH wise, i just finished the single player campaign and im trying my hand at a few skirmish games, i found a really good coh site at http://www.gamereplays.org which hosts tonnes of really good replays of matches/ they also host shoutcasts of these replays that help allot explaining what each player is doing.

What i do is capture a few points around me and then stay at home and build my base and let my team mate/s(2v2 or more) go out and take all the points and hold the enimey back.

After that i go out with my men alive and kicking and push the enemy back to a certain point.

If you have bridges, Blow them up(engineers using demo charges), Make sure there is only 1 or 2 ways the enemey can get his men to you. Its even better if he cant get tanks to you(although that means you cant get tanks to him)

If you want to kill snippers then thats what the jeep or Motorbike is good for :)
