OK so for the last week or so I have been getting some coil whine ......but only when I'm watching a video/film at night ..when I stop watching the film.....the whine goes away, although I haven't noticed any whine when on BF4 ( I'll have a proper listen later today )... so I'm assuming it's the Graphics Card ( see specs below)...maybe time to change my card ?

thanx :)

Do have to say though ....this is the first time I have ever had coil whine from a card.....assuming it in fact is the card .

Coil whine can occur in a number of different components so, as you mentioned, you should definitely have a closer listen later to check which component is making the noise before you potentially change it. Might be a good idea to take the side panel off.

Now as far as i'm aware coil whine is not a defect. It in no way means your component is on its way out. Linus from LinusTechTips on Youtube did a great video on coil whine which i'll link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7HsXHqtxrI. Give that a watch and it'll give you a better idea of what exactly coil whine is.

If it is very loud and annoying then you could certainly replace the card or PSU or whatever is causing the coil whine, however it does not mean the component is failing and therefore means you shouldn't need to change your card.

I agree with tomdoughnut, coil whine is not always a sign of a failure. It can happen to any electrical equipment.

Obviously if it gets too overbearing then it may need to be replaced but its not always necessary.

PSU is a common cause of these issues.

OK guys thank you ...on closer inspection this afternoon I think it might actually be one of my HDDs ,,,the noise itself is coming from the front of my 750D just where one of the hard drives sit...but I'll give it a proper look on Monday morning as I have been told I got shelves to put up tomorrow and F1 to watch in the afternoon with my little girl lol
