Coil whine? New build

Long story short I just built my first PC yesterday. Everything went together fine despite how nerve racking it was worrying about will it start first time, it did!

Now the problem I'm facing is whenever I run a type of benchmark or even GTA 5 on high/ultra settings I get a continuous whining noise, I can't exactly describe it.

Here is what it sounds like, doesn't seem as bad when listening to a recording.

So I done some tests. I put the card back into my old PC and run the same benchmark, the noise is not there. It's perfect.

Old PC.

When I put the GPU back into my new PC, run the same benchmark that noise is back.

Does this mean it's my new PSU causing this problem? What other component could be causing this irritating noise during games/benchmarks.

Old PC - Corsair 650w TX.
New PC - Corsair 750w 80 PLUS® Gold

tried swapping the psu's to see if it is it that is causing the issue?

Certain combinations of power supplies and video cards are known to cause coil whine especially with high end cards like the 980Ti your running.

As above try swapping the PSU's around, failing that I managed to solve my coil whine issue on a GTX670 by running a constant loop of Unigen overnight, turning off the PC and letting cool down seemed to fix the issue for me.

If you can't fix it maybe ask in the customer services forum (ask for Gibbo) what PSU they would recommend, since your PC is new you could still swap out your PSU with 14 days of purchase.

Your old PSU is probably better than your new one.

Older Corsair TX units were Seasonic built - which is a good quality manufacturer.

Newer Corsair PSU's are absolutely terrible, much cheaper units which tend to whine.

I'd return it ASAP and buy a nice 750w Superflower Leadex.

What the others said. Despite Gold rating that new PSU is almost certainly much crappier.

You have a power hungry high end card. Swapping to a better PSU may well eliminate the issue.

Also, open up the case and try to determine if it's the GPU or the Mobo.

If it's the PSU, definitely return it ... per Dave's post, Superflower are way, way better than all but the most expensive Corsair PSUs.

Not had any issues with two HXi and RMx unit I have had. Ran quieter then my evga p2 1200watt unit did (proberbly thanks to the fluid dynamic fan) And no coil whine issues on the corsair or evga models.

From what I've read it was the RM that was prone to problems and now they've added the RMi models to the range which state in the description that they now use higher quality Japanese capacitors

100% All Japanese 105°C capacitors: Premium internal components ensure solid power delivery and long term reliability

Theoretically it shouldn't be a problem if you have one of the newer models but it will be interesting to know if it is solved as I need to replace my TX850v2 with a modular model at some point. My version 2 TX850 is about 5 years old now and hasn't missed a beat.
