how can I get rid of such an issue. the noise is situated around the CPU socket, most prominent at the back of MB. all power saving features in bios are disabled.

i have a cooler master true power 850 watt PSU.

gigabyte G1 sniper X58 MB.

is it a case of getting a different MB or PSU??

problem is i was given this board by gigabyte as a replacement for my broken gigabyte extreme board. don't know if ive got a warranty with this one.

Test with your bro's psu, and if the squeal persists, you will know that it is your mobo that is at fault. If not, it's time for a new PSU. And yes, you will have a warranty with your current mobo; even if it is a replacement for a previous RMA.

Good point about the energy saving mode as well. Also, check your cpu and ram voltages in your bios too. I had a skt 775 board that squealed unless I bumped up the ram voltage a smidgen.

currently doing some OCing, voltages are generously given to all components.

quick off topic question. qpi voltage of 1.5+v normal for a stable 4ghz i7 920 D0??

1.5v for qpi/vtt? You sure? As thats way way too much, around 1.35v qpi/vtt for 4ghz imo

How much ram? And speed?

needed 1.54V on qpi for 4GHz to be stable. not even sure if it was 100% stable as my CPU went to around 90 C with it so stopped prime. only way to get into windows with CPU at 3.9GHZ is it put 1.5 V into QPI.

i have 3x4GB DDR3 1600mhz. with timings on auto for stability at mo.

thought 1.5v was too high so why do i need it to get into windows??
